Choose the grade level and classroom type (elementary grade or ensemble type and level)

bullet

Find an appropriate content area in the TEKS (Browse Standards) Fine Arts - Music - Choose a Grade Level - Knowledge and Skills  - choose one

bullet

Write a minimal lesson plan: At the end of the lesson, what do you want the students to know and/or be able to do?

bullet

Plan your recording (only you, or add some students)

bullet

Practice your lesson; you must be visible in the video

bullet

Record your lesson in a classroom setting. At the beginning of the video, announce the type and level of student group. The video should look like a classroom environment. If using your phone to record, use landscape, not portrait mode

Post the link in the Canvas Assignment tab

Notes

bullet

Do not use AP or high school music theory for your lessons. Class should be elementary music or secondary (middle school or high school) ensemble

bullet

Do not do a lesson that has already been done

bullet

Use visuals where appropriate; you can use a single PowerPoint slide or equivalent for reference, but not an elaborate presentation

bullet

No demonstrations ("watch me, then do it" or "listen to me, then do it"); don't teach tone, breathing, fingering, instrumental or vocal methods; make your students more musically literate. Take these 2 minutes to teach your students something you would not normally teach in order to add value to the lesson that might follow.

bullet

If you are going to define something, look it up! Don't rely on what you think it means.

bullet

Give specific feedback to your students. Everything is not "awesome."

bullet

Try to eliminate vocal habits as much as possible.

bullet

Dress like a teacher!
